Herbalism Immersion 2.0 Apprenticeship (Session 1)
with Antonia Estela Pérez
Based on a collective desire to dive deeper into what we learned in the intro to herbalism immersion, this part 2 immersion will serve as our opportunity to put theory into practice. In this 6 month herbalism journey we will be deepening our relationship with the plants—from seed to harvest.
This immersion 2.0 will take place on Plants to the People farm where we grow herbs for our mutual-aid plant distribution, make herbal remedies, and share space with the plants throughout the seasons. This 6-7 month study will be an opportunity to grow alongside the plants we are tending to, develop a new level of intimacy with the land, and dive deeper into individual and collective care.

Shade is A Place: Shade Equity & Arboreal Stewardship
This knowledge share explores how poetry, walking, and attention to place can help us understand our relationships to land, climate, and each other. Using MaKshya Tolbert’s Shade is a place as a starting point, the workshop looks at shade—especially tree shade—as a site of rest, care, memory, and Black sense of place.
Participants will engage with the project’s practices (such as shade walks and shade studies) to reflect on how environments shape interior life, how climate and social conditions are felt in the body, and how slowing down can be a form of care and resistance. The workshop centers conversation and reflection rather than production, inviting participants to think about where they live and move, how they relate to their surroundings, and what it means to “begin again” in changing ecological and social conditions.

Herding: What Equine Histories Can Teach Us About Being Together
with Bitter Kalli
In this knowledge share, we will explore the ways Black and Indigenous people throughout the Americas have related to horses, and what those relationships can teach us about living collectively. From fugitive slaves escaping plantations on horseback to mounted protestors at the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests, horses have played a central role in Black and Indigenous survival, land stewardship, and memory work.

Remembering the Forgotten Collective
with Walter Bosque, Mama esp, Brother shep and Baba Dr. Kokayi Patterson
This gathering honors the memory and legacy of beloved teachers of resistance Cleo Silvers, Dr. Richard Taft, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, Assata Shakur, Sekou Odinga, Yuri Kochiyama, Safiya Bukhari, and other ancestors we carry with us. Together, we reflect on a pivotal moment that redefined health care as a community-controlled human right, while grounding ourselves in what is needed today to support our houseless and hungry relatives both locally and globally. What began as a grassroots public health response evolved into a powerful political and healing project, one that continues to inspire generations of practitioners, organizers, and caregivers to look after their communities. It invites us to return, again and again, to a vital question: What does it mean to truly tend to one another?
