What is the CSA?

The Herban Cura Herbal CSA (Community Supported Apothecary) is a collection of juicy summer herbal magic. The CSA subscription includes 4 boxes, 1 per month, June, July, August, & September. Each box will include 5 products + a packet of seeds (plus an occasional bonus!), plus bundles of fresh herbs tended by our hands on Lenape Territory in Northeastern, Pennsylvania and Mahican Territory in the Hudson Valley. The boxes will be available for pick up at either Lil Deb’s Oasis in Hudson, NY, or in Washington Heights in NYC; shipping is also available (however, fresh herbs are available in the boxes for local pick up only).

We are following the teachings of mystery, and therefore each box will be a bundle of surprises, depending on the month, what is happiest in our garden and on our tongues, and on our muse, the land! Build or expand your apothecary with the fruits of our ecological collaboration & inspiration.

The various goodies included in the boxes were all grown, tended & crafted by us - such as: northeast-naturalized seeds, our personal recipes, throat spray, burnable bundles, fresh herbs, oxymels, glycerites, tinctures, infused oils, infused honey, jam, herbal salts, face & lung steams, teas, herbal balm, body butter…

Example of what’s in a box:

  • 1oz Restorative Heart Glycerite (Rose, Chamomile, Calendula, Lilac & Glycerine)

  • 1oz Lilac Oxymel (Lilac Flowers, Honey & Apple Cider Vinegar)

  • 2oz Gentle Body Oil (Cleavers, Rose, Chamomile, Butterfly Bush, Yarrow, Plantain, & Sunflower Oil)

  • 4oz Strawberry Jam

Cost:

The true cost of each box is $160. The true cost of all 4 boxes is $640.

Every remedy has been prepared by hand from seed to harvest, to finding the most local and beautiful menstrums: honey, alcohol, sunflower oil, and apple cider vinegar. All ingredients aside from the glycerine are local to the Hudson Valley. Every plant that has been integrated into the remedies is locally grown and tended to by us or our friends. Our prayer is that the folks who receive this offering feel nourished, inspired, and curious to know their bodies and the land more intimately. We are so excited to be sharing our connection to the land with you in this way.

Our Sliding Scale is meant to make these offerings as accessible as possible while also honoring all of the labor and resources that have gone into the preparation and distribution. Please reference this sliding scale resource to support you choosing the honest amount.

Why support the CSA ?

  • This is an opportunity to support our work!

We are tending land and growing the Herban Cura Garden in Northeastern Pennsylvania. We are growing the soil, and planting medicinal perennials and native species, and imagining how herbal mutual aid can evolve beyond simply delivering ready-made medicine to frontline communities, to integrate these communities more intimately into our medicine-making process. As part of our reimagining of what herbal mutual aid can look like, we are continuing to build community outside the farm to bring people onto the land, to discuss what kind of healing is needed within their communities.

We’ll be connecting with the plants and collectively choosing the ones that are calling to us. We will be providing all necessary materials to craft all kinds of remedies, and guiding our guests throughout the process. Our intention is to share knowledge and skills, to build capacity for communities who wish to continue this work more autonomously.

  • is an Herban Cura not-for-profit resource redistribution project this CSA supports.

The main mission of Plants to the People is to make herbs and plants more accessible to low-income, BIPOC, and immigrant communities. We redistribute fresh and dried, locally-grown, organic herbs at no cost for the general public. We set up our distribution events in publicly accessible spaces, most frequently in community parks and along sidewalks in residential neighborhoods. The locations of our distributions are chosen primarily to accommodate working-class people of color; those who have been here for generations, as well as first-generation immigrants and their families.

FAQs

  • Known as Community Supported Agriculture or Community Supported Apothecary. This is a way to support our farming work, regardless of all the unknowns that come with the farming season.

  • We are happy to ship your CSA to you! Your CSA will be shipped in 2 parts, however, once in June and once in September. If you buy one box at a time, your box will ship around the pick up date for that month.

  • Yes, we have each individual box for sale as well. Please make your selection from the drop-down menu on the sign up page! Please note, individual boxes do not include knowledge share access.

  • Not at all! If you register for our local pick up or shipping options at any point, you will receive your boxes for the prior months together!

The Herban Cura Herb Garden is a place where we grow an embodied relationship with the land and the plants; a place for us to continue learning from the plants, the birds, the pollinators, as we live into what reciprocal relationship looks and feels like. We operate at the rhythm of the land and beings who live with it and because of it. We do not operate under models of production that use scarcity mindsets and patriarchal modes of relating. We honor and hold space for rest, prayer, deep reflection, open communication, joy, and abundance.
